Pictured above is the last turtle of the 2007 season to be rescued by Nancy and her 'Turtle Haul'. This is an updated pictured as of 12-15-07. He has recovered quite well. Eight was found at Figure Eight Island. To read Nancy's amazing recount of the search and rescue, please click on the link 'WB Rescued Turtles' to the left.

If you see a sea turtle that appears to be hurt, stranded, or struggling please call 910-791-4541. For your safety, please do not attempt to rescue the turtle yourself.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP TODAY? We just started participating in the GoodSearch program. By using GoodSearch as your internet search engine, every time you click on it, 1 cent will be donated to the Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project. Those clicks can really add up! Or you can also click on 'GoodSearch' in the left column of this page to access it. For more information and ideas on how you can use this, go to http://www.goodsearch.com/GetInvolved.aspx.

The 2007 turtle season came to a close with a total of 391 hatchlings which emerged from the 4 Wrightsville Beach sea turtle nests. There were 101 live hatchlings in the first nest which contained 118 eggs. From the second nest there were 91 hatchlings out of 98 eggs. The third nest yielded 102 hatchings out of 129 eggs. And the forth nest had 97 hatchlings emerge out of 104 eggs. Thanks to all the volunteers and all the spectators during the excavations! We hope to see you all out there again next summer.

As always, we will kick off our 2008 season with an organizational meeting. The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 24th at 7PM at the Fran Russ Recreation Center located in Wrightville Beach Park. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you are invited to attend this meeting.

Volunteers can sign up to walk a section of the beach at 6AM on a specific day or day(s) looking for turtle tracks to aid in finding turtle nests. As a volunteer you will also be able to sign up to aid in nest watching when the hatchlings are expected to emerge. We also have fund raising events and opportunities which are donated to the Topsail Island Sea Turtle Hospital.

We have Sea Turtle T-shirts and stickers available with all proceeds going to help the Topsail Island Sea Turtle Hospital. The adult T-shirts are $20; kids T-shirts are $15; and stickers are $5. Please email h2obubbles@hotmail.com for more information on T-shirts and/or stickers. Also look for our booth at Wrightville Beach Park during the Flotilla in November.
