The first excavation this season will occur Friday August 8th. It will be held around
dusk at approximately 7:45 PM. The nest is located at beach access #35 which is on
Bridgers Street. As always we are not sure how many turtles will be released during
the excavation. We have had from zero to 20+ come out of the nest during prior
excavations. Hopefully there will be a few turtles to make their dash and splash on Friday.
The Wrightsville Beach Museum is sponsoring 'turtle talks' to aid in the awareness
and education on Sea Turtles. The talks will take place on Thursday evenings, July 17th & 31st,
and August 7th and 21st at 7:00 PM. The museum is located on Salisbury Street or behind
the tennis courts at the Wrightsville Beach Park.
During the nesting season, you may come across a sea turtle who is hurt or injured.
If you see a sea turtle that appears to be hurt, stranded, or struggling please
call 910-791-4541. For your safety, please do not attempt to rescue the turtle
yourself.
